Description
Explore the extraordinary terroirs of Chassagne-Montrachet through six wines from one of the village’s historic family domaines. Guided by special guest Sabine Mollard of Domaine Marc Morey, this intimate seminar moves from village Chassagne-Montrachet through five distinctive Premier Cru vineyards, all from the 2023 vintage.
Founded in 1919, Domaine Marc Morey has been shaped by four generations of the Morey family. Sabine Mollard has directed the domaine since 2008, overseeing approximately nine hectares of vineyards and producing wines prized for their balance of depth, freshness, precision, and mineral expression.
Beginning with Chassagne-Montrachet, we will climb the slopes and explore the striking differences among Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, En Virondot, Morgeot, and Les Caillerets. Changes in elevation, exposure, limestone, clay, and soil depth give each vineyard its own identity, providing a fascinating demonstration of Burgundy’s remarkable patchwork of terroirs.
Of particular significance is En Virondot, one of Domaine Marc Morey’s signature wines. The family owns nearly the entire Premier Cru climat, whose high elevation, shallow soils, and limestone bedrock produce one of the domaine’s most distinctive and age-worthy expressions.
With Sabine Mollard sharing her family’s history and firsthand perspective on these vineyards, this is a rare opportunity to experience Chassagne-Montrachet vineyard by vineyard, and to discover why Chardonnay can express such profound differences across remarkably small distances.
